The Hall of Machines (Halle de la Machine)

One of Toulouse’s newest and most unique attractions opened in 2018 on the former site of Montaudran Airport.

The location has symbolic significance: it was here that the legendary Aéropostale airmail service, which connected France with Africa and South America, was launched.

The hall is home to the fantastic mechanical creatures of the famous La Machine company. The protagonist is the impressive Minotaur, a 14-meter-tall and 47-ton moving statue that also takes visitors on its back. The hall also features the Star Spider, a huge spider, and numerous smaller but equally impressive mechanical devices.

Visitors can not only admire these special creations but also learn about their operation. The designers and operators of the machines, the „machinists”, give demonstrations about the operation and control of the mechanisms. The terrace of the restaurant in the building offers a special view of the Minotaur’s path, where the huge machine regularly walks to the amazement of visitors.

Cité de l’Espace

Located in the suburbs of Toulouse, it is one of Europe’s most significant space exploration theme parks. The choice of location is no coincidence, as Toulouse is the center of the European space industry, where Airbus manufactures a significant portion of space equipment.

The exhibitions in the park interactively present the history of space exploration and modern technologies. Visitors can see the original-sized Ariane 5 launch vehicle, a replica of the Mir space station module, and gain insight into the everyday lives of astronauts. The planetarium’s impressive projections reveal the mysteries of outer space.

Its special feature is that numerous simulators and interactive stations allow visitors to experience what it feels like to be in space. Separate educational programs are offered for children, which introduce them to the basics of astronomy and space exploration in a playful way.
