Places where you can get close to nature

Luckily, there are many places in the world where you can truly enjoy nature. Here are some locations where you can not only relax peacefully but also experience the wonders of nature.

Travel and nature

Tenerife

Along the coast, there are great sights to see, while the Teide volcano’s massive peak dominates the center of the island.

The world’s 3rd largest volcano can be reached on foot and by cable car (with a bit of walking), but you’ll need a permit.

It’s also worth visiting the Anaga National Park. This large forested area with vast laurel forests and deep valleys is a great experience for hikers!

Bali

Bali is Indonesia’s most famous destination and one of the world’s most popular holiday islands. The unique combination of culture, relaxation, and nature makes Bali stand out.

Much of the island offers stunning natural attractions: numerous waterfalls, volcanoes, and jungle-like forests.

And you’ve probably seen pictures of huge terraced rice fields. You can see these in person in Bali, which is no surprise since a large portion of the population lives off rice farming.

Iceland

Iceland is one of the most accessible places for those who love natural wonders. Located in the North Atlantic Ocean, the island has 140 volcanoes (26 of which are active) and countless smaller and larger waterfalls and geysers.

Due to volcanic activity, many hot springs emerge on the island, some of which can be visited as outdoor thermal baths. The Blue Lagoon is one of the world-famous bathing spots.

We can’t miss the Northern Lights either. The light show visible in the winter provides an unforgettable experience for anyone who witnesses it!

National Parks of the USA

The United States is home to many national parks, but a few names are familiar to everyone.

Yellowstone National Park, known from the Yogi Bear cartoon, is famous for its geysers, hot springs, and other geothermal phenomena. It’s also a great experience for hikers, as the park has about 1,500 km of hiking trails.

Yosemite National Park is the USA’s 2nd largest, featuring 900-meter-high granite walls. It boasts a diverse range of flora and fauna, and you can explore over 1,000 km of hiking trails.

The Bryce Canyon National Park is undeservedly less known. It’s not a true canyon but rather the edge of a plateau, where the wind and ice have carved thousands of rock spires, pillars, and arches from the red and white rocks. From the plateau’s edge, a dozen hiking trails lead down. These include longer routes and shorter ones like the 1-2 hour Queens Garden trail.

Azores

They say it is a paradise for nature lovers in Europe. This is no exaggeration, as a wide range of natural beauties can be found here. It’s no wonder it’s called the Hawaii of Europe.

The nine islands of the Azores each have fantastic sights. The most popular is São Miguel, which is closest to Europe and where the capital is located.

However, many consider the more distant islands to be the most beautiful. For example, Pico Island, whose centerpiece is the volcano of the same name. You can even climb it.

Flores Island is considered the most beautiful, with its most stunning features being the waterfalls. Near Fajã Grande, nearly 20 waterfalls cascade side by side into the depths from the vividly green cliff face.

Seychelles

The Seychelles, comprising three main islands, is not only famous for its stunning beaches.

Mahé, the largest island, features jungle-clad mountains, more than 60 beautiful beaches, dreamy bays, secret corners, a dense forested interior, small towns, and a unique Creole culture, making it the center of the archipelago.

On Mahé, you’ll find Morne Seychellois National Park, where several trails offer excellent hiking opportunities.

Praslin, the second largest island, boasts the most beautiful beaches. Among them is Anse Lazio, which has been voted the most beautiful beach in the world.

La Digue is the most tranquil island, best explored by bicycle.

New Zealand

The most isolated country on earth, resulting in a unique biodiversity of animals and plants, with many endemic species found only here.

For hikers, the South Island offers more attractions. Here you can find the fjord region of Milford Sound. The fjord is flanked by steep rock walls and mountains, both sides rising to about 1200 meters. There are also several large glaciers (the most famous being the Franz Josef Glacier) and New Zealand’s highest peak.

However, the more popular North Island also has plenty of natural attractions. Tongariro National Park is one of the oldest national parks in the world, featuring high volcanic peaks, turquoise lakes, dry plateaus, alpine meadows, and hot springs. Rotorua is one of the most active geothermal regions in the world, where you can see the Lady Knox geyser and the colorful Wai-O-Tapu thermal pools.

Galapagos Islands

One of the most remote island groups in the world, located near the equator in the Pacific Ocean, consisting of 14 larger, 6 smaller islands, and over a hundred rocks.

The islands, formed by volcanic and tectonic forces, have very diverse wildlife, and interestingly, each island is different from the others.

It’s no wonder they call it a living museum of evolution, as it is home to many endemic species. Charles Darwin also studied the wildlife of the islands for several weeks.

You can encounter notable animals such as the giant tortoise, iguana, blue-footed booby, and Galapagos sea lion.

On one of the most beautiful islands, Isabela, you can even hike to the crater of an active volcano!
