As everyone knows, the bicycle is Amsterdam’s main mode of transport. It’s almost the foundation of public transportation. Of course, this doesn’t mean other modes are neglected. Amsterdam’s transportation system is excellent beyond just cycling!

Transportation between Schiphol Airport and Amsterdam

Train
Runs between the airport and Centraal Station multiple times per hour (including hourly night service).
Fare: €6.70, ages 4-11 €2.50, under 3 free.

Bus
Bus 397 (Amsterdam Airport Express) runs to Elandsgracht bus station, with multiple stops (e.g., Rijksmuseum). Night service runs as N97.
Fare: €6.50 one-way, €11.75 return.

Public transportation
The city has excellent public transport: bus, tram, metro, and even water taxi.
Important: You must validate your ticket/pass both when boarding and alighting by scanning at the reader. Exception: metro-to-metro transfers only require validation when exiting the station.

It is also worth mentioning the ferry transport! There are several boat services between the districts: the most used is the one between the main station and the opposite side (Buiksloterweg). All boat services are free! For more information about the services, click here!

Valid for unlimited transfers within one hour.

Night bus (GVB Night)
Regular tickets not valid; separate night ticket required. Valid for one journey.
Fare: €6.50
Day tickets (GVB Day and GVB Multi-day)
Available from 24 to 168 hours. Valid from first use, not calendar days.
Fares:
- 24 hours: €9.50, ages 4-11 €5
- 48 hours: €15.50
- 72 hours: €21.50
- 96 hours: €27
- 120 hours: €34
- 144 hours: €38.50
- 168 hours: €42.50
Amsterdam Travel Ticket
This ticket allows unlimited travel within Amsterdam and is valid for the train between Schiphol Airport and the city, the 397 and the night bus N97.
Tickets are available for 1, 2 and 3 days. It is valid for a calendar day, from 0.00 a.m. one day until 4.00 a.m. the next.

- 1 day: €18
- 2 days: €24
- 3 days: €30
