Roma Street Parkland

Moreton Island

Just 40 kilometers from Brisbane’s shores lies this wonderful sandy paradise, which is considered the world’s third-largest sand island.

Most of the island is protected as a national park, where visitors can enjoy the pristine beauty of nature. One of its most well-known attractions is the Tangalooma shipwrecks, where 15 ships were deliberately sunk in the 1960s to create an artificial reef. Today, these wrecks are not only a paradise for divers but also an easily accessible attraction for snorkelers.

Moreton Island is home to rich wildlife: dolphins, dugongs, and turtles can be observed in the coastal waters, while migrating whales can often be seen from the shore (between June and November).

One of the most memorable experiences on the island is the Tangalooma Island Resort wildlife watching program, where visitors can hand-feed wild bottlenose dolphins at sunset, which regularly return to the shore. The island can be reached by ferry from Brisbane and can be enjoyed either as a day trip or as a multi-day vacation.

Brisbane has a subtropical climate, which means hot, humid summers and mild, dry winters. The city’s climate is often described as „sunny, warm, and friendly,” as the sun shines for an average of 283 days per year.

Spring (September-November):

Spring in Australia is a pleasant time to visit Brisbane. The average temperature ranges between 15-25°C and gradually rises as summer approaches. Rainfall is moderate, although short but intense showers may occur more frequently in spring. Jacaranda trees bloom during this time.

Summer (December-February):

Summer in Brisbane is hot and humid, with average temperatures ranging between 21-30°C, but heat waves over 35°C are not uncommon. Due to the high humidity, the perceived temperature is often higher than the actual temperature.

Mount Eden (Maungawhau)

One of Auckland’s most popular lookout points and natural attractions.

The 196-meter-high extinct volcanic cone is the city’s highest natural point, offering a stunning panorama of the entire area. Its name in Maori means „mountain covered with whau trees”. The volcanic cone was once the site of a Maori pā, a fortified settlement where the local iwi (tribe) lived.

At the top of the mountain is a huge 50-meter deep crater, which locals consider a sacred place, so walking into it is not allowed. The walk to the lookout is relatively easy and can be completed in 10-15 minutes.

Rangitoto Island

Auckland’s youngest volcanic island, formed approximately 600 years ago as a result of a massive eruption.

The island is located directly in front of the harbor, and its iconic, regular volcanic cone is visible from many points in the city. Today it is a nature reserve, a favorite destination for hikers and nature lovers.

The island can be reached by ferry from downtown Auckland. The most popular activity is the Rangitoto Summit Track, a hike to the summit that takes about an hour to complete. Along the way, black lava fields, native forests, and breathtaking lookout points make the experience unforgettable. From the 259-meter high summit, there is a 360-degree panorama.

One of the island’s specialties is that it is home to New Zealand’s largest pōhutukawa forest. These spectacular red-flowered trees are also known as „New Zealand’s Christmas trees”.

Waiheke Island

St. Patrick’s Cathedral

Eureka Tower

Built between 2002 and 2006, the tower was named after the 1854 Eureka Rebellion, a clash between gold miners and authorities in Victoria. Rippon Lea Estate

The garden surrounding the mansion is also noteworthy. The 14-hectare English garden features a lake, pavilions, and greenhouses. Once, the plants grown here made the estate self-sufficient.

St. Paul’s Cathedral

Shrine of Remembrance

Located in Kings Domain park south of the city center, it’s one of the country’s most significant war memorials.

Cooks’ Cottage

Australia’s oldest building was the home of Captain James Cook’s parents.

Interestingly, it was originally built in Yorkshire, England, in 1755. In 1933, Sir Russell Grimwade purchased the building to gift it to Melbourne. Every brick was numbered and shipped to Australia.

The building is a typical 18th-century English farmhouse, built from brick with a thatched roof. Through original furnishings and period decorations, visitors can glimpse everyday life in Captain Cook’s era. The garden was designed after original 18th-century English gardens, with herbs and vegetables.

Hosier Lane

One of Melbourne’s most famous alleyways is world-renowned for its impressive street art and graffiti culture.

Flinders Street Station

One of the city’s most important railway stations is Australia’s oldest train station.
