<p><strong>Lanzarote is perhaps the least visited island of the Canary Islands. Yet numerous attractions, beaches, and resorts await tourists!</strong></p>

<p>Lanzarote is the easternmost, northernmost, and also the oldest of the seven major islands in the <a href="https://tipsforjourney.com/best-places-in-spain/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Spanish</a> Canary Islands. Locals often call it Conejera, while others refer to it as the &#8222;Island of a Hundred Volcanoes&#8221;. Its central landscapes are made diverse by nearly 300 volcanoes.</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading has-text-align-center"><strong>Lanzarote attractions</strong></h2>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Arrecife</strong></h3>

<p>Lanzarote&#8217;s capital and largest city is located on the eastern coast of the island.</p>

<p>Founded in the 15th century, its significance grew in the 18th century when it became the island&#8217;s administrative center. It got its name from the coastal coral reefs (&#8222;arrecife&#8221; means reef in Spanish) that have protected the city for centuries.</p>

<p>Its most important attraction is the San Gabriel Castle (Castillo de San Gabriel). The fortress is located on a small island and was built in the 16th century to defend against pirate attacks. Today, the castle houses the Historical Museum (Museo de Historia de Arrecife), which showcases the island&#8217;s past.</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Timanfaya National Park</strong></h3>

<p>One of Lanzarote&#8217;s most iconic natural attractions, covering approximately 51 square kilometers in the western part of the island.</p>

<p>The park features the Montañas del Fuego (Fire Mountains), which offer a spectacular sight with their red, black, and orange hues. The landscape looks like something from another planet.</p>

<p>Near the earth&#8217;s surface, temperatures are still extremely high, reaching 400-600°C in some places. An interesting attraction related to this is the El Diablo restaurant, where food is cooked using volcanic heat. Just a few meters below the grill is glowing rock that functions as a natural oven.</p>

<p>To preserve and protect the landscape, the national park can only be visited through organized tours.</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Fundación César Manrique</strong></h3>

<p>One of Lanzarote&#8217;s most important cultural attractions, commemorating the legacy of the island&#8217;s most famous native, César Manrique.</p>

<p>Located in the artist&#8217;s former home in the town of Tahíche, the house is unique because it was built on volcanic lava bubbles, perfectly integrating with the island&#8217;s volcanic landscape.</p>

<p>The museum displays Manrique&#8217;s paintings, sculptures, and other artworks. The exhibitions encompass various modern art movements. Below the building are five huge lava bubbles that Manrique transformed into creative spaces. These unique rooms &#8211; including a pool, rest areas, and garden terraces &#8211; create a futuristic atmosphere.</p>

<p>All information can be found <a href="https://fcmanrique.org/inicio/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">here</a>!</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Jameos del Agua</strong></h3>

<p>Located in the northern part of the island, this is one of César Manrique&#8217;s famous architectural and artistic works.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s part of a 6-kilometer-long volcanic tunnel system created by the eruption of the La Corona volcano approximately 4,000 years ago. The term &#8222;jameo&#8221; in Spanish refers to the open areas created by the collapse of the cave ceiling.</p>

<p>Inside the cave is a crystal-clear saltwater lake fed by seawater. The lake&#8217;s special feature is the albino cave crabs (Munidopsis polymorpha) that live here. These tiny, white creatures are found exclusively in this location.</p>

<p>All information can be found <a href="https://ventaonline.cactlanzarote.com/en/tickets/jameos-del-agua-ticket" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">here</a>!</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Cueva de los Verdes</strong></h3>

<p>Part of a several-kilometer-long volcanic tunnel system created by the La Corona volcano&#8217;s eruption approximately 4,000 years ago.</p>

<p>The cave was formed when the outer layer of hot lava flowing from the volcano solidified while the inner, still liquid lava continued to flow, leaving behind a cavity. Over time, this tunnel has developed fascinating geological formations and colors.</p>

<p>One of its most unique features is an underground lake that creates an optical illusion. The water surface perfectly reflects the surroundings, creating an interesting atmosphere that often deceives visitors.</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Charco de los Clicos</strong></h3>

<p>The Green Lagoon, this special lake is located in the southwestern part of the island, near the village of El Golfo.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s the remnant of an old volcanic crater that partially connects to the Atlantic Ocean. Ocean waves and volcanic activity together created this unique natural formation. The lake&#8217;s vivid green color is due to microscopic algae that thrive in high-salt environments.</p>

<p>Visitors cannot go down to the lakeshore. From the nearby parking lot, a designated path leads to a point offering beautiful views.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Mirador del Río</strong></h3>

<p>This viewpoint in the northern part of the island offers magnificent panoramic views of La Graciosa island and the Atlantic Ocean.</p>

<p>The lookout, situated on a 400-meter-high cliff, was designed by César Manrique. Its interior spaces are dominated by Manrique&#8217;s style: a meeting of natural forms and minimalist design.</p>

<p>You can drive all the way to the top from Ye village, making it a popular tourist attraction in Lanzarote.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="900" height="600" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/tipsforjourney-lanzarote-attractions-beaches-Mirador-del-Rio.jpg" alt="Wonderful views" class="wp-image-5055" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/tipsforjourney-lanzarote-attractions-beaches-Mirador-del-Rio.jpg 900w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/tipsforjourney-lanzarote-attractions-beaches-Mirador-del-Rio-300x200.jpg 300w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/tipsforjourney-lanzarote-attractions-beaches-Mirador-del-Rio-768x512.jpg 768w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/tipsforjourney-lanzarote-attractions-beaches-Mirador-del-Rio-585x390.jpg 585w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/tipsforjourney-lanzarote-attractions-beaches-Mirador-del-Rio-263x175.jpg 263w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Wonderful views</figcaption></figure>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Puerto del Carmen</strong></h3>

<p>One of Lanzarote&#8217;s most popular tourist centers.</p>

<p>The town has evolved from a traditional fishing village into a modern resort while maintaining its authentic atmosphere. Along La Avenida de las Playas, there are numerous bars, clubs, and restaurants.</p>

<p>Puerto del Carmen&#8217;s most famous beach is Playa Grande. It features fine golden sand, crystal-clear water, and excellent infrastructure, perfect for families and those seeking relaxation.</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Playa Blanca and Castillo del Aguila</strong></h3>

<p>These two towns are the center of the island&#8217;s southernmost part, where most tourists arrive.</p>

<p>There are numerous accommodations, restaurants, and a castle here. Several smaller beaches are nearby, and you can take a boat to the opposite Fuerteventura.</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Salinas de Janubio</strong></h3>

<p>This place preserves salt-making traditions on the island&#8217;s southwestern coast, near Yaiza.</p>

<p>Founded in the late 1890s, it has been operating continuously since then. Ocean water is collected in various pools where it slowly evaporates, leaving salt deposits at the bottom. The different pools are painted in various colors. The salt is then collected, cleaned, and sold in various forms, including the famous Fleur de Sel (salt flower).</p>

<p>There&#8217;s also a visitor center at the salt pans. Visitors can walk around the pools, observe the salt-making process, and watch local bird life.</p>

<p>All information can be found <a href="http://www.salinasdejanubio.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">here</a>!</p>

</div>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>La Geria</strong></h3>

<p>In this small area, we can see Lanzarote&#8217;s <a href="https://tipsforjourney.com/where-to-travel-for-really-good-wine/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">traditional wine cultivation</a>.</p>

<p>The wine region&#8217;s uniqueness comes from growing grapes in volcanic soil. The area is covered with black volcanic ash, which provides ideal nutrients for the vines. Since rain is rare, the grape-growing techniques used here are unique: small walls and depressions surrounding the vines help preserve rainfall and provide protection against wind.</p>

<p>The most common grape varieties include Malvasia and Listán Negro. You can taste the produced wine in the local cellars.</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Cactus Garden (El Jardin del Cactus)</strong></h3>

<p>Located on the outskirts of Gautiza village, this garden showcases numerous cacti.</p>

<p>The park was created in an old quarry, preserving the unique character of the volcanic landscape while implementing modern gardening solutions. The park was designed by famous Canarian architect César Manrique and opened in 1991.</p>

<p>The park features over 1,000 different cactus species from various parts of the world, including Mexico, South America, and Africa. Visitors can see cacti of different shapes and sizes. The garden is arranged on multiple levels, with different sections following various themes.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Castillo de Santa Bárbara</strong></h3>

<p>One of Lanzarote&#8217;s oldest and most significant fortifications, located at the top of the volcanic Guanapay mountain near the town of Teguise.</p>

<p>Construction began in the 16th century when Lanzarote became a frequent target of pirate attacks. The first parts of the fortress were built by Sancho de Herrera, then ruler of Lanzarote, to provide protection for the island&#8217;s inhabitants. Later, in the late 16th century, Italian engineer Leonardo Torriani designed and expanded it. He added the bastions and walls still visible today, which strengthened the castle&#8217;s defensive capabilities.</p>

<p>Today it functions as a museum, showcasing Lanzarote&#8217;s history, particularly focusing on pirate attacks on the island and its defense strategies. From the top of the fortress, there&#8217;s a magnificent panorama of Teguise town, the island&#8217;s volcanic landscapes, and the Atlantic Ocean.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Playa de Papagayo</strong></h3>

<p>Located near Playa Blanca, this beach is another of the southern area&#8217;s most visited shores.</p>

<p>Famous for its clear, turquoise water and fine sandy beach. The bay has a gentle slope, so the water warms up quickly, making the beach ideal for swimming, diving, and snorkeling.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Playa de Famara</strong></h3>

<p>Located in the northern part of the island, this is the beach of Caleta de Famara settlement.</p>

<p>Its uniqueness comes from the backdrop of huge cliffs of Risco de Famara, one of the island&#8217;s most famous volcanoes, offering a spectacular view.</p>

<p>Due to the windy coastline, it&#8217;s mainly popular among surfers.</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Playa de las Cucharas</strong></h3>

<p>Located on Lanzarote&#8217;s eastern coast in the Costa Teguise resort.</p>

<p>The 600-meter-long beach in the bay has fine golden sand, surrounded by several high-quality hotels. Being just a few kilometers from the capital, it&#8217;s a popular holiday destination.</p>

<p><strong>Tenerife is the most popular member of the Canary Islands, which I can confirm! Beautiful mountains, beaches, and settlements characterize this <a href="https://tipsforjourney.com/best-places-in-spain/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Spanish</a> island.</strong></p>

<p>The island is one of Spain&#8217;s main tourist destinations and the site of one of the world&#8217;s largest carnivals. Distant travelers are fascinated by the island&#8217;s duality: the massive, dark mountains and sandy beaches. Together with neighbouring <a href="https://tipsforjourney.com/gran-canaria-attractions-beaches/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Gran Canaria</a>, it is one of the most popular Spanish destinations.</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading has-text-align-center"><strong>Tenerife attractions</strong></h2>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Teide</strong></h3>

<p>Tenerife&#8217;s largest natural attraction is this 3,718-meter-high mountain, visible from almost everywhere as it sits in the center of the island. Although it&#8217;s an active volcano, it last erupted in 1909.</p>

<p>The Earth&#8217;s 3rd largest volcano can be approached on foot and by cable car (with a bit of walking), but a permit is required. The Teleférico del Teide cable car starts from an altitude of 2,356 meters and goes up to 3,555 meters.</p>

<p>The highest parking lot below the peak (about 2,200 meters high) can be reached by main road from both north and south. From here, you can hike up to the Altavista refuge. The altitude and the sulfurous smell <a href="https://tipsforjourney.com/european-vacation-with-hiking-excursions/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">from the volcano make climbing difficult</a>, so make sure you&#8217;re in good physical condition before attempting it!</p>

<p>Cable car prices, opening hours, and all information can be found <a href="https://www.volcanoteide.com/en/teide_cable_car" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">here</a>.</p>

</div>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Puerto de la Cruz</strong></h3>

<p>What makes this city worth choosing is its typical Spanish atmosphere. It&#8217;s also a good starting point for climbing Teide, with a beautiful winding road leading to the base of the mountain.</p>

<p>Although it&#8217;s a well-developed resort town, its architecture, culture, and food have retained the Tenerife style. All this is reflected in the palm-lined seafront promenade, shopping streets, and old churches.</p>

<p>Its most famous attraction is Loro Parque, a world-renowned zoo and amusement park, especially known for its parrot collection.</p>

<p>Another popular site is Lago Martiánez, a unique, man-made lagoon complex designed by the famous Spanish architect César Manrique. Here, swimming pools, palm trees, and decorations made of volcanic rock create a unique environment on the beach.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="900" height="675" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-puerto-de-la-cruz.jpg" alt="Part of the beach with swimming pool" class="wp-image-4164" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-puerto-de-la-cruz.jpg 900w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-puerto-de-la-cruz-300x225.jpg 300w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-puerto-de-la-cruz-768x576.jpg 768w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-puerto-de-la-cruz-585x439.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Part of the beach with swimming pool</figcaption></figure>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>El Sauzal</strong></h3>

<p>This small town is located between Puerto de la Cruz and the northern airport, along the main road, and it&#8217;s definitely worth stopping!</p>

<p>The town is also known as a continuous viewpoint, as there&#8217;s a beautiful panorama from almost everywhere.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="900" height="675" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-el-Sauzal.jpg" alt="Located in a beautiful setting" class="wp-image-4165" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-el-Sauzal.jpg 900w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-el-Sauzal-300x225.jpg 300w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-el-Sauzal-768x576.jpg 768w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-el-Sauzal-585x439.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Located in a beautiful setting</figcaption></figure>
</div>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Icod de los Vinos</strong></h3>

<p>This small town is home to the world&#8217;s largest dragon tree, which only grows on a few tropical islands. This specimen is over 500 years old.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s worth taking a short walk in the town; the Plaza de La Pila is considered the most beautiful square on the island.</p>

<p>The world&#8217;s largest volcanic cave, the Cave of the Winds (Cueva del Viento), is also located here. Underground labyrinth passages on three levels form it, where visitors can admire the cave&#8217;s geomorphological beauty. According to speleologists, at 18 kilometers long, it&#8217;s one of the largest in the world. Tickets and opening hours can be found <a href="https://www.cuevadelviento.net/?lang=en" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">here</a>.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="900" height="598" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-icod-de-los-vinos.jpg" alt="The largest dragon tree in the world" class="wp-image-4166" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-icod-de-los-vinos.jpg 900w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-icod-de-los-vinos-300x199.jpg 300w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-icod-de-los-vinos-768x510.jpg 768w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-icod-de-los-vinos-585x389.jpg 585w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-icod-de-los-vinos-263x175.jpg 263w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">The largest dragon tree in the world</figcaption></figure>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Garachico</strong></h3>

<p>It&#8217;s worth stopping in this village between Puerto de la Cruz and Masca.</p>

<p>The village was destroyed by a volcano in 1706, creating interesting pools on the shore that were occupied by water. The rocks between the pools have been paved, so you can walk among them.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="900" height="675" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-garachico.jpg" alt="The water has formed pools" class="wp-image-4167" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-garachico.jpg 900w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-garachico-300x225.jpg 300w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-garachico-768x576.jpg 768w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-garachico-585x439.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">The water has formed pools</figcaption></figure>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Los Gigantes</strong></h3>

<p>One of Tenerife&#8217;s spectacular natural wonders is located on the west coast.</p>

<p>The impressive cliffs, from which the city gets its name, are 500-800 meters high and descend steeply into the Atlantic Ocean.</p>

<p>The city has a small, volcanic sand beach called Playa de los Guios. Due to the proximity of the cliffs, the beach is particularly protected from larger waves.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Masca</strong></h3>

<p>The former pirate village nestles among the steep rocks of the Teno Mountains and is a must-see attraction.</p>

<p>The village was once a secluded, hard-to-reach mountain settlement; an asphalt road was only built to it in the 1970s. Thus, it has preserved the old style quite well.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s interesting not only because of the village itself but also because of the road leading there! A steep serpentine road with many turns leads there, and two cars can barely fit side by side. Because of this, I recommend taking a bus from Santiago del Teide so you can enjoy the scenery all the way.</p>

<p>From the village, an approximately 8 km hiking trail leads through a gorge to the seaside. It&#8217;s a difficult hike and there&#8217;s a fee. You can book a time slot online <a href="https://www.caminobarrancodemasca.com/en" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">here</a>.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="900" height="600" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-masca.jpg" alt="A former pirate village in a beautiful setting" class="wp-image-4169" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-masca.jpg 900w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-masca-300x200.jpg 300w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-masca-768x512.jpg 768w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-masca-585x390.jpg 585w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-masca-263x175.jpg 263w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">A former pirate village in a beautiful setting</figcaption></figure>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos</strong></h3>

<p>These two neighboring cities in the south are the island&#8217;s holiday center. It&#8217;s a real resort area with many hotels, apartments, and entertainment options.</p>

<p>Its best beach is Playa de Las Vistas, with promenades lined with all kinds of shops and restaurants.</p>

<p>If you want a passive holiday, this is the place to come, as there are several excursion options in the area that you can do with children as well.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="900" height="675" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-playa-americas.jpg" alt="Most popular tourist destination in Tenerife" class="wp-image-4170" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-playa-americas.jpg 900w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-playa-americas-300x225.jpg 300w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-playa-americas-768x576.jpg 768w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-playa-americas-585x439.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Most popular tourist destination in Tenerife</figcaption></figure>
</div>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Santa Cruz de Tenerife</strong></h3>

<p>The capital of Tenerife is extremely charming, and it&#8217;s worth taking a look around if you&#8217;re in the northern part!</p>

<p>However, it&#8217;s best known for its carnival, which is the world&#8217;s 2nd largest such event after Rio. The street parade is the main element of the carnival, during which the city&#8217;s population pours into the streets and celebrates in carnival costumes with music and dance.</p>

<p>Take a walk on Rambla de Santa Cruz street, which with its huge trees, seating areas, cafes, and shops is a favorite of both locals and tourists.</p>

<p>Next to the Rambla is the city&#8217;s bullfighting arena. Since bullfights were banned years ago, the arena is now mainly used for concerts and other performances.</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Playa de las Teresitas</strong></h3>

<p>The <a href="https://tipsforjourney.com/most-beautiful-european-beaches/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">most beautiful beach</a> in the northern part is located a few kilometers from the capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s a golden sand beach, as the shore was filled with Saharan sand back in the 1970s. The bay is surrounded by mountains, so the view from the water is fantastic. On a clear day, you can see Teide in the distance.</p>

<p>The beach is protected by an artificial reef, so the water is usually calm and wave-free, which is ideal for young children. Palm trees and tropical plants line the beach, giving you a Caribbean feel.</p>

<p>The most beautiful view of the beach is from the road running along the hillside (Mirador Las Teresitas). If you&#8217;re driving, definitely go up here because the view is wonderful.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="900" height="675" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-teresitas.jpg" alt="One of the most beautiful beaches in Europe" class="wp-image-4171" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-teresitas.jpg 900w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-teresitas-300x225.jpg 300w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-teresitas-768x576.jpg 768w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-teresitas-585x439.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">One of the most beautiful beaches in Europe</figcaption></figure>
</div>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Anaga National Park</strong></h3>

<p>When I was in the southern part and checked out of my accommodation, the receptionist insisted that I shouldn&#8217;t miss Anaga in the northern part. This is a large forested area with huge laurel forests and valleys cut through it.</p>

<p>I can only recommend that you drive from the capital or San Andres (from Teresitas beach) to the Cruz del Carmen visitor center, from where you can take short and long hikes to the surrounding areas. You won&#8217;t be disappointed by the sometimes eerie hiking trails among the laurel trees!</p>

<p>Turning off Route 12 towards Benijo, we find several beaches on the coast, but be prepared for colder water than in the south and more frequent winds. However, we&#8217;re greeted with a great view from below.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="900" height="600" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-anaga-park.jpg" alt="We can walk in the forest of laurel" class="wp-image-4172" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-anaga-park.jpg 900w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-anaga-park-300x200.jpg 300w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-anaga-park-768x512.jpg 768w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-anaga-park-585x390.jpg 585w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/tipsforjourney-tenerife-attractions-anaga-park-263x175.jpg 263w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">We can walk in the forest of laurel</figcaption></figure>

<p><strong>Gran Canaria is one of the most popular islands in the Canary Islands, thanks to its natural attractions and abundant entertainment options.</strong></p>

<p>It is the most diverse island, offering everything from deserts to tropical forests and various climatic zones. Despite its name, it is not the largest in the archipelago, ranking third in size after <a href="https://tipsforjourney.com/tenerife-attractions/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tenerife</a> and <a href="https://tipsforjourney.com/fuerteventura-attractions-beaches/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Fuerteventura</a>.</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading has-text-align-center"><strong>Gran Canaria attractions</strong></h2>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Las Palmas</strong></h3>

<p>The capital city is located in the northeast corner of the island. The city&#8217;s landscape is dominated by its port, one of the largest in the Atlantic Ocean.</p>

<p>A must-see is the old town area called Vegueta, which was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2007. By taking the elevator up to the tower of the Santa Ana Cathedral, you can enjoy the panoramic views.</p>

<p>Its largest beach, Playa de Las Canteras, stretches for several kilometers and is lined with bars, restaurants, and hotels.</p>

<p>A significant historical building is the Casa de Colón. This museum primarily honors the life and voyages of Christopher Columbus, particularly the period when the explorer stopped on the island on his way to America.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">

</div>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Maspalomas, Playa del Inglés</strong></h3>

<p>Located in the southern part of the island, these two resort towns have now merged and are well-known vacation spots. The area offers many activities for tourists (more details below).</p>

<p>Its approximately 8 km long beach is very popular, making it a favorite holiday destination for young people due to the seaside entertainment venues.</p>

<p>A large sandy area has formed between the town and the beach. The dunes are shaped by the wind, constantly changing their form and position due to the constant breezes. It is especially worth taking a walk at sunset to see this beautiful landscape.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="900" height="600" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/tipsforjourney-gran-canaria_attractions-beaches-maspalomas-dune.jpg" alt="Great programme to walk on the sand dunes" class="wp-image-1875" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/tipsforjourney-gran-canaria_attractions-beaches-maspalomas-dune.jpg 900w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/tipsforjourney-gran-canaria_attractions-beaches-maspalomas-dune-300x200.jpg 300w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/tipsforjourney-gran-canaria_attractions-beaches-maspalomas-dune-768x512.jpg 768w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/tipsforjourney-gran-canaria_attractions-beaches-maspalomas-dune-585x390.jpg 585w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/tipsforjourney-gran-canaria_attractions-beaches-maspalomas-dune-263x175.jpg 263w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Great programme to walk on the sand dunes</figcaption></figure>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Puerto Rico de Gran Canaria</strong></h3>

<p>This resort town is built on two hills, making its beach very sheltered with a pleasant climate. It is the sunniest town in <a href="https://tipsforjourney.com/best-places-in-spain/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Spain</a>.</p>

<p>Its main attraction is the spacious, well-maintained sandy beach, Playa de Puerto Rico. It is one of the most popular beaches on the island, featuring a marina, restaurants, hotels, and cocktail bars.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Playa de Amadores</strong></h3>

<p>Gran Canaria&#8217;s iconic beach is located not far from Puerto Rico.</p>

<p>It is a popular destination for both tourists and locals, thanks to its crystal-clear turquoise water and fine white sand.</p>

<p>The beach is about 800 meters long and lies in a curved bay surrounded by high cliffs, protecting it from large waves and strong winds. It is an ideal spot for families, as the calm water provides safe swimming conditions for all ages.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Puerto de Mogán</strong></h3>

<p>Located northwest of Puerto Rico, at the end of the main road 1, this small town nestles between high cliffs.</p>

<p>Although it has only a small sandy bay, it is a popular holiday spot. It is perfect for those who prefer a quieter vacation.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Agaete</strong></h3>

<p>The Agaete Valley is one of the few places in Europe where coffee beans are grown. Besides coffee plantations, the valley also features orange, avocado, and papaya trees, contributing to its natural diversity.</p>

<p>The town is home to the Huerto de las Flores botanical garden, showcasing more than a hundred different tropical and subtropical species.</p>

<p>The Puerto de las Nieves port is popular, where traditional fishing boats dock, and seaside restaurants offer dishes made from freshly caught fish.</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Telde</strong></h3>

<p>Gran Canaria&#8217;s second-largest city is located on the eastern part of the island, about 15 kilometers from the capital. It is an excellent example of traditional Canarian architecture and lifestyle.</p>

<p>Its historical center is the San Juan quarter, with cobblestone streets and beautiful colonial buildings. A notable building is the 16th-century San Juan Bautista Church.</p>

<p>For those interested in learning more about the city&#8217;s history and local life, it is worth visiting the Casa-Museo León y Castillo and the Casa Condal museums.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Pico de las Nieves</strong></h3>

<p>Gran Canaria&#8217;s highest point is 1949 meters high.</p>

<p>A road leads almost to the summit, allowing anyone to enjoy the view from above. However, it is worth checking the weather forecast before setting out, as the weather at the top can be completely different from that at the coast.</p>

<p><strong>Fuerteventura, as a member of the <a href="https://tipsforjourney.com/category/europe/spain/canary-islands/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Canary Islands</a>, is a popular holiday destination in both winter and summer. And of course, its wonderful beaches are not to be missed!</strong></p>

<p>The second largest of the Canary Islands, it is a long island situated between <a href="https://tipsforjourney.com/lanzarote-attractions-beaches/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lanzarote</a> and <a href="https://tipsforjourney.com/gran-canaria-attractions-beaches/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Gran Canaria</a>, close to the coast of <a href="https://tipsforjourney.com/best-places-in-morocco/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Morocco</a>.</p>

<p>Its nickname is the Old Island, as its once mountainous terrain has now significantly eroded. Its highest volcanic peak, Pico de la Zarza, located in the southern part of the island, is only 807 meters high.</p>

<p>The approximately 70 km long island is covered with particularly fine sand. This sand is black on most of the coast, but there are also many places with wonderful golden beaches. These are very popular among tourists.</p>

<p>I visited the island in January 2023. It became one of my favorites, especially because of the pleasant climate, the beaches, and the great atmosphere. It feels good to reminisce about drinking coffee on the sandy beach at 22 degrees Celsius. 🙂</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading has-text-align-center"><strong>Fuerteventura attractions</strong></h2>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Morro Jable</strong></h3>

<p>The most popular place in the southern part of the island, thanks to its long beaches.</p>

<p>Originally a quiet fishing village, it has developed into a bustling resort over time while retaining its original charm and character. The town is famous for its long, <a href="https://tipsforjourney.com/most-beautiful-european-beaches/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">golden sandy beaches</a>, which are ideal for sunbathing, swimming, and water sports.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">

</div>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Playa de Cofete</strong></h3>

<p>Located in the southern extension of the island, on the northern side of the mountain range, is this unparalleled beach.</p>

<p>When I saw it from the bus, I felt as if I were on the Moon. The beach stretches for about 12 kilometers of golden sandy shoreline, behind which rises the barren, tall mountain range.</p>

<p>There are no shops or other services on the beach, making it a truly wild and scenic location.</p>

<p>From Morro Jable, bus number 113 operates twice daily. The road is quite winding, suitable for those who are well-prepared if traveling by car.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Costa Calma</strong></h3>

<p>Next to Morro Jable, another tourist center with many high-category hotels.</p>

<p>There are no particular attractions in the town, except for its beach. It is a suitable choice for those who want a peaceful rest.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="900" height="675" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/tipsforjourney-fuerteventura-attractions-beaches-costa-calma.jpg" alt="There are many hotels in the town" class="wp-image-533" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/tipsforjourney-fuerteventura-attractions-beaches-costa-calma.jpg 900w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/tipsforjourney-fuerteventura-attractions-beaches-costa-calma-300x225.jpg 300w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/tipsforjourney-fuerteventura-attractions-beaches-costa-calma-768x576.jpg 768w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/tipsforjourney-fuerteventura-attractions-beaches-costa-calma-585x439.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">There are many hotels in the town</figcaption></figure>
</div>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Playa de Sotavento</strong></h3>

<p>The coastal area south of Costa Calma is the island&#8217;s most popular beach. The approximately 9 km long beach has golden sand and truly turquoise water.</p>

<p>Its uniqueness lies in the large, shallow lagoon that forms between the sea and the shore at low tide. This makes it a perfect spot for kitesurfing. Numerous international competitions are held here annually.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="900" height="675" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/tipsforjourney-fuerteventura-attractions-beaches-sotavento.jpg" alt="Most popular beach in Fuerteventura" class="wp-image-535" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/tipsforjourney-fuerteventura-attractions-beaches-sotavento.jpg 900w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/tipsforjourney-fuerteventura-attractions-beaches-sotavento-300x225.jpg 300w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/tipsforjourney-fuerteventura-attractions-beaches-sotavento-768x576.jpg 768w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/tipsforjourney-fuerteventura-attractions-beaches-sotavento-585x439.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Most popular beach in Fuerteventura</figcaption></figure>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Betancuria</strong></h3>

<p>Located in the central part of Fuerteventura, this small town was the island&#8217;s first capital.</p>

<p>Founded in 1404 by the Norman noble Jean de Béthencourt, it was named after him. It served as the island&#8217;s political and religious center until 1860.</p>

<p>It has preserved its medieval atmosphere to this day, with narrow, cobblestone streets and well-preserved historical buildings. Its most important sight is the Santa María church, built in the 15th century.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="900" height="675" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/tipsforjourney-fuerteventura-attractions-beaches-betancuria.jpg" alt="It was the first capital of the island" class="wp-image-536" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/tipsforjourney-fuerteventura-attractions-beaches-betancuria.jpg 900w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/tipsforjourney-fuerteventura-attractions-beaches-betancuria-300x225.jpg 300w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/tipsforjourney-fuerteventura-attractions-beaches-betancuria-768x576.jpg 768w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/tipsforjourney-fuerteventura-attractions-beaches-betancuria-585x439.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">It was the first capital of the island</figcaption></figure>
</div>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Corralejo</strong></h3>

<p>The center of the island&#8217;s northern part is known for its vast sand dunes.</p>

<p>To the southeast of the town, there are several kilometers of fine sandy beaches and impressive dunes stretching out. The strong winds in the area continuously blow the sand, so the dunes&#8217; shapes change over time.</p>

<p>The old town area (Casco Viejo) in the city center has very atmospheric pedestrian streets and a vibrant nightlife, with many bars and clubs.</p>

<p>It is also home to the island&#8217;s only water park. Acua Water Park has more than 15 attractions, offering various slides to try out. All information here!</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Calderón Hondo</strong></h3>

<p>This volcanic crater, 70 meters deep with a wonderful view from the top, is located southwest of Corralejo. You can walk around its entire rim.</p>

<p>It is most easily accessed from the south, from the village of Lajares. From there, it&#8217;s about a 40-minute walk to the caldera.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>El Cotillo</strong></h3>

<p>Located not far from Corralejo, it has become increasingly popular with tourists over the years.</p>

<p>It is known for its beautiful beaches and natural lagoons: on the town&#8217;s outskirts, two bays give a little Caribbean feel.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s worth walking up to the El Tostón fortress on the southern part of the town, which offers a great view of the town and the coast.</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Ajuy Caves</strong></h3>

<p>The caves near Ajuy village and the surrounding area are special geological formations.</p>

<p>Inside, various rock formations and colors shaped by natural erosion can be observed. At its highest point, the ceiling is more than 15 meters above the ground.</p>

<p>The path to the caves runs along a stunning coastal trail, offering a special view of the rocky shores and the Atlantic Ocean. The trail starts from Ajuy&#8217;s <a href="https://tipsforjourney.com/unique-colored-beaches-around-the-world/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">black sandy beach</a>, which is a rarity on the island itself.</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Puerto del Rosario</strong></h3>

<p>The capital of Fuerteventura, but it can be safely skipped from the list.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s quite a characterless settlement, without any particular attractions and beautiful beaches. Buses depart from here, so it has significance in terms of transportation.</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Museo del Queso Majorero</strong></h3>

<p>This museum near the town of Antigua showcases the island&#8217;s famous Majorero cheese.</p>

<p>The cheese is made using milk from the indigenous Majorera goats. The cheese occupies a prominent place among <a href="https://tipsforjourney.com/best-places-in-spain/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Spanish</a> cheeses.</p>

<p>It displays the traditional methods of Majorero production, from goat breeding through milk processing to cheese making.</p>

<p>The museum also features a cactus garden, where various cactus species characteristic of the island can be viewed, and a windmill, which demonstrates traditional grain milling techniques.</p>
