<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Slovenia unfortunately often gets overlooked when it comes to planning a getaway. I am about to introduce you to 18 marvelous places and sights that are a must-see in Slovenia!</strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Four major European geographical regions converge in the country: the Alps, the Dinaric Alps, the Pannonian Basin, and the Mediterranean. About half of the country is covered by forests, placing Slovenia third in Europe in terms of forest area size, following <a href="https://tipsforjourney.com/best-places-in-finland/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Finland</a> and <a href="https://tipsforjourney.com/best-places-in-sweden/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sweden</a>.</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading has-text-align-center"><strong>The most beautiful places in Slovenia</strong></h2>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Lake Bled</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Slovenia&#8217;s second-largest lake, located in the Julian Alps, is surrounded by picturesque scenery, mountains, and forests.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Its iconic attraction is &#8222;Bled Island&#8221;, situated in the middle of the lake. The island hosts several buildings, but the most prominent is the Pilgrimage Church of the Assumption of Mary, built in the 17th century in a Baroque style. It is adorned with beautiful frescoes. Its tower is 52 meters high. The staircase leading to the top of the church consists of 98 steps.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">On the northern side of the lake stands a castle, which can be accessed on foot or by car. The castle hosts a museum, an armory, and a café. A magnificent view awaits.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="900" height="600" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-bled.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1204" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-bled.jpg 900w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-bled-300x200.jpg 300w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-bled-768x512.jpg 768w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-bled-585x390.jpg 585w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-bled-263x175.jpg 263w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure>
</div>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Piran and Portorož</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Slovenia&#8217;s coastal area is quite small, but Piran and its settlement part, Portorož, are popular with tourists in every season.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Piran is a Mediterranean town with an Italian vibe, not by chance as Italy is just a few kilometers away. Its old town stretches into the sea in a narrow triangle shape. Its ambiance and structure are very similar to the <a href="https://tipsforjourney.com/best-places-in-croatia-not-just-for-holidays/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Croatian</a>-Venetian-style old towns like Dubrovnik. Its main attraction is the church named after the town&#8217;s patron saint, St. George, and the castle on the hilltop, which can be reached through narrow, romantic streets. From here, a wonderful view of the town and the sea opens up.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Portorož is the country&#8217;s most elegant and popular seaside resort with a main street lined with palm trees. It&#8217;s the center of nightlife. Here you can find one of the largest sandy beaches on the Slovenian coast.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img decoding="async" width="900" height="506" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-piran.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1205" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-piran.jpg 900w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-piran-300x169.jpg 300w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-piran-768x432.jpg 768w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-piran-585x329.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure>
</div>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Ljubljana</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We can confidently say that the Slovenian capital is among the most atmospheric cities in Europe. With only about 290,000 inhabitants, Ljubljana offers the tranquil, yet marvelous experience of a “small town.”</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The city is dominated by the castle above the old town, from where a great view opens up. Although the city center is not large, it&#8217;s still worth taking a walk and sitting out on the terraces of the restaurants along the Ljubljanica River in the evening.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph"><a href="https://tipsforjourney.com/ljubljana-attractions/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ljubljana attractions</a></p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img decoding="async" width="900" height="600" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-ljubljana.jpg" alt="The old town and the castle" class="wp-image-1225" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-ljubljana.jpg 900w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-ljubljana-300x200.jpg 300w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-ljubljana-768x512.jpg 768w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-ljubljana-585x390.jpg 585w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-ljubljana-263x175.jpg 263w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">The old town and the castle</figcaption></figure>
</div>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Škocjan Caves</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As part of the UNESCO World Heritage, it&#8217;s not just the sight of stalactites that makes this a must-visit.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The cave system is also a canyon carved out by the Reka River. This is the world&#8217;s widest underground canyon. The sizes of the chambers are staggering, with the largest hall being 146 meters high and 120 meters wide.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It fits a shorter hike, a little fitness won&#8217;t hurt to explore, but the view compensates for everything!</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Vintgar Gorge</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Located 6 km from Lake Bled, this gorge was carved by the Radovna River. In the 1.6 km long gorge, you can see waterfalls and rapids.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The gorge ends with the 16-meter high Šum Waterfall, which is Slovenia&#8217;s highest river waterfall.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Its natural beauty makes it one of Slovenia&#8217;s most beautiful attractions, helped by the proximity of Lake Bled.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="900" height="600" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-vintgar.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1206" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-vintgar.jpg 900w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-vintgar-300x200.jpg 300w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-vintgar-768x512.jpg 768w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-vintgar-585x390.jpg 585w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-vintgar-263x175.jpg 263w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure>
</div>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Maribor</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Slovenia&#8217;s second-largest city, being close to the Hungarian border, makes it a potential destination for us.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As the center of Slovenian <a href="https://tipsforjourney.com/best-places-in-styria/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Styria</a>, this city on the Drava River exudes a strong Austrian vibe. The narrow streets hide many Baroque buildings, with the Main Square, Castle Square, and the Lent district comprising most of Maribor&#8217;s attractions.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The city is most famous for its connection to viticulture. Here, you can find the world&#8217;s oldest producing grapevine.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph"><a href="https://tipsforjourney.com/maribor-attractions/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Maribor attractions</a></p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="900" height="582" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-maribor.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1207" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-maribor.jpg 900w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-maribor-300x194.jpg 300w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-maribor-768x497.jpg 768w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-maribor-585x378.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure>
</div>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Rinka Waterfall</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One of the most beautiful and well-known waterfalls in Slovenia, it&#8217;s a popular destination among tourists.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The cascade of 20 waterfalls – achieving a total drop of 105 meters – is topped by Rinka, plunging down from a height of 90 meters.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A designated tourist path leads up to the viewpoint below the waterfall, reachable by an easy 20-minute walk.</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Triglav</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Slovenia&#8217;s highest mountain, located in the heart of the Julian Alps in Triglav National Park.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Among the peaks of the Alps, it is one of the most popular mountains since conquering it does not require mountaineering experience. Of course, good fitness and a bit of high-mountain routine are necessary, as the 2864-meter summit includes some more challenging sections.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Needless to say, the view from the top is magnificent. With an early start, it&#8217;s possible to ascend and descend in one day.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="900" height="675" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-triglav.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1208" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-triglav.jpg 900w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-triglav-300x225.jpg 300w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-triglav-768x576.jpg 768w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-triglav-585x439.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure>
</div>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Postojna Cave</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The caves were created by the Pivka River, extending over 24 km in length, making it Slovenia&#8217;s second-longest cave system.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Its fame not only comes from the countless stalactite formations and its unique wildlife but also from being home to the world&#8217;s first cave railway and the only underground post office, attracting hundreds of thousands of tourists annually because of these features.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The cave system has three levels. The Pivka River flows at the lowest level, hence the cave is still expanding today.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="900" height="600" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-postojna.jpg" alt="Wonderful formations can be seen" class="wp-image-1226" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-postojna.jpg 900w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-postojna-300x200.jpg 300w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-postojna-768x512.jpg 768w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-postojna-585x390.jpg 585w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-postojna-263x175.jpg 263w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Wonderful formations can be seen</figcaption></figure>
</div>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Predjama Castle</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Very close to the Postojna Cave stands this unique Renaissance castle built within the mouth of a cave.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The cliff face closes off a valley, and the Lokva stream plunges underground here, contributing to the cave system&#8217;s formation. The cave (Luknja) served as a hideout, accessible only across a rocky ridge along the edge of a 60-meter deep abyss and through a secret passage that leads to the mountain peak after 38 meters.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The museum in the castle operates all year round, with popular knight tournaments held in the field next to the castle during the summer. The passages beneath the castle form the country&#8217;s second-longest accessible cave system.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="900" height="600" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-predjamski.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1209" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-predjamski.jpg 900w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-predjamski-300x200.jpg 300w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-predjamski-768x512.jpg 768w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-predjamski-585x390.jpg 585w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-predjamski-263x175.jpg 263w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure>
</div>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Lake Bohinj</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Alongside Lake Bled, this is another popular lake, being Slovenia&#8217;s largest natural lake in the Julian Alps.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The lake offers numerous recreational activities, including swimming, rowing, windsurfing, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, diving during the warmer months, and occasionally ice skating in winter. Additionally, walking around the lake and boat trips on the lake are also possible.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="900" height="599" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-lake-bohinj.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1210" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-lake-bohinj.jpg 900w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-lake-bohinj-300x200.jpg 300w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-lake-bohinj-768x511.jpg 768w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-lake-bohinj-585x389.jpg 585w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-lake-bohinj-263x175.jpg 263w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure>
</div>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Savica Waterfall</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">While at Lake Bohinj, consider visiting one of Slovenia&#8217;s most beautiful waterfalls.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It stands 78 meters tall and is directly fed by the Savica karst spring just above the waterfall. Although climbing the stairs requires conquering a nearly 130-meter elevation gain, a wonderful panorama of Lake Bohinj opens up from there.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="675" height="900" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-savica-waterfall.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1211" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-savica-waterfall.jpg 675w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-savica-waterfall-225x300.jpg 225w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-savica-waterfall-585x780.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 675px) 100vw, 675px" /></figure>
</div>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Soča Valley</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Soča River is considered one of the most beautiful Alpine rivers, not just because of its stunning blue-green color, but also because of the landscape.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Soča Valley is a paradise for nature activity enthusiasts: white-water rafting or kayaking through the Soča rapids, exploring the gorges, descending the steepest ziplines, seeking the most beautiful views from the surrounding peaks on foot or by bike, and skiing in the Kanin &#8211; Sella Nevea mountain resort during winter.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="900" height="675" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-soca.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1212" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-soca.jpg 900w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-soca-300x225.jpg 300w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-soca-768x576.jpg 768w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/tipsforjourney-best-in-slovenia-soca-585x439.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure>
</div>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Boka Waterfall</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The two-step waterfall&#8217;s highest height is 144 meters, with a width of 18 meters, making it Slovenia&#8217;s tallest waterfall.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">An interesting fact is that the water flows directly from the rock into the valley, with no preceding river to feed it, thus it also functions as a spring.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Branik Castle</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Also known as Rihemberk Castle, located above the village of Branik in Southwest Slovenia.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Originally a medieval fortress from the 13th century, it was built on a strategic high rocky outcrop to control the surrounding areas and the valley below. The castle was later augmented with Renaissance and Baroque elements, especially during the 16th and 17th centuries when it underwent significant renovations and expansions.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Today, the castle and its surroundings are a popular tourist destination offering magnificent views of the Vipava Valley. The building hosts periodic exhibitions and cultural events that showcase the region&#8217;s rich history and cultural heritage.</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Brda</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The region near the Italian border is also referred to as the Slovenian <a href="https://tipsforjourney.com/best-places-in-tuscany/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tuscany</a>.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This hilly area is one of the most outstanding wine-growing and gastronomical centers in Slovenia, famous for its quality wines and olive oils. The area lies at the intersection of Mediterranean and Alpine climates, creating ideal conditions for viticulture. The local grape variety is Rebula.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Brda&#8217;s hilltop villages and vineyards make this region especially attractive for lovers of nature and the quiet countryside life. The area houses several small villages like Šmartno, Dobrovo, and Medana. Their medieval architectural features and narrow, cobblestone streets make for charming settlements.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Ptuj</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One of the oldest towns in Slovenia, located on the Drava River, its main attraction is the well-preserved medieval architectural heritage.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In the Middle Ages, it played an important role in the region, especially because of its castle, which still dominates the townscape and offers an excellent view of the town and the surrounding landscape. The Ormož Museum currently operates in the castle.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The town center features many Gothic and Renaissance buildings, as well as churches and monasteries built in the Baroque style.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Maribor is a very atmospheric city, perfect for a visit due to its history and somewhat <a href="https://tipsforjourney.com/best-places-in-austria/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Austrian</a> character.</strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It is <a href="https://tipsforjourney.com/best-places-in-slovenia/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Slovenia&#8217;s</a> second-largest city, an important economic and cultural hub, rightfully considered as Slovenia&#8217;s &#8222;second capital&#8221;.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It is the largest city in the Slovenian Lower <a href="https://tipsforjourney.com/best-places-in-styria/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Styria</a> region. The nearest major city is <a href="https://tipsforjourney.com/graz-attractions/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Graz</a> in Austria, located 60 km north, with which it maintains close economic and cultural ties.</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading has-text-align-center"><strong>Attractions in Maribor</strong></h2>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Maribor Castle</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The history of the castle dates back to the 12th century when the first fortifications were built on this site. In the 15th and 16th centuries, it was significantly strengthened and expanded due to <a href="https://tipsforjourney.com/best-places-in-turkey/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Turkish</a> attacks. Over the centuries, the castle has undergone numerous transformations, enriching it with Renaissance and Baroque stylistic elements.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Its exterior appearance is impressive, with massive walls and towers reflecting the characteristics of medieval fortifications. The interior courtyard is spacious, with a fountain in the center, surrounded by parts of the building added in different eras.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The most significant part of the Maribor Regional Museum operates inside the building (described below).</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="900" height="507" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-castle-1.jpg" alt="The castle is now a museum" class="wp-image-4121" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-castle-1.jpg 900w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-castle-1-300x169.jpg 300w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-castle-1-768x433.jpg 768w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-castle-1-585x330.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">The castle is now a museum</figcaption></figure>
</div>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>St. John the Baptist Cathedral</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One of Maribor’s most significant religious and historical buildings is located in the city center.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A Romanesque-style church once stood here. The Gothic cathedral was mostly built in the 14th and 15th centuries, though it was enriched with Baroque elements in later periods.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Its exterior appearance is impressive, with characteristic Gothic architectural elements such as sharp arches, a slender tower, and intricately detailed portals. The main facade is dominated by a magnificent, multi-level tower that is visible from afar over the city, becoming a distinctive element of Maribor.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The bell tower also functions as a lookout point, offering a great panorama of the city.</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Main Square (Glavni Trg)</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The square is one of the city&#8217;s main hubs, where several attractions can be seen.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The most important is the Town Hall, built in the Baroque style in the 1500s, which has undergone several transformations over the years. The Plague Column in front of the building was erected in the early 18th century, commemorating the victims of the plague epidemics.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The former courthouse and several old, ornate bourgeois houses are also prominent.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="900" height="609" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-main-square.jpg" alt="The central building is the town hall" class="wp-image-1087" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-main-square.jpg 900w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-main-square-300x203.jpg 300w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-main-square-768x520.jpg 768w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-main-square-585x396.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">The central building is the town hall</figcaption></figure>
</div>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Our Lady of Mercy Basilica</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Not far from the cathedral, there’s an imposing red Franciscan church.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Together with the monastery, it was built between 1892 and 1900, on the site of the former Capuchin church. The building was constructed in Neo-Romanesque style. It is 57.5 meters long, 24 meters wide, and 17.5 meters high. Its facade is adorned with two massive, 58-meter high bell towers, which end with pointed roofs and 3-meter high gilded crosses.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The church has three entrances, decorated with stone carvings. The most elaborately decorated main door features a lunette mosaic depicting the Annunciation to Mary. Above the rosette, in the gable, stands the gilded image of the Mother of Mercy.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="507" height="900" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-basilica-1.jpg" alt="Characteristic building" class="wp-image-4123" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-basilica-1.jpg 507w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-basilica-1-169x300.jpg 169w" sizes="(max-width: 507px) 100vw, 507px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Characteristic building</figcaption></figure>
</div>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Maribor Regional Museum</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One of Slovenia&#8217;s most important cultural and historical institutions operates in several locations, the most significant being in Maribor Castle.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Its collections are extensive and diverse, including several thematic exhibitions. Among the most important are:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>The archaeological exhibition, which presents traces of human presence from the region&#8217;s prehistory through valuable findings, showcasing the daily life, material culture, and artistic creations of previous civilizations.</li>

<li>The historical exhibition reviews the region&#8217;s significant events from the Middle Ages, including economic, social, and political changes.</li>

<li>The art department pays special attention to local and regional artists&#8217; works, showcasing traditional folk arts to modern and contemporary creations.</li>

<li>The ethnographic exhibition is a colorful presentation of the region&#8217;s folk culture, traditions, and lifestyle, including folk costumes, customs, traditional crafts, and everyday life objects.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">All information <a href="https://museum-mb.si/en/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">here</a>!</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Court Tower</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This building, notable for its white color, is one of the most beautiful parts of the city&#8217;s defense system.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It was built in the 14th century and has undergone several transformations and renovations over the centuries. Today, you can still see the tower&#8217;s distinctive medieval architectural elements, such as thick walls and narrow arrow slits.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It got its name from the fact that it also served judicial functions at one time. In addition, it has served as a warehouse and prison throughout history.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="900" height="507" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-court-tower-1.jpg" alt="It was an important part of the defence fortress" class="wp-image-4124" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-court-tower-1.jpg 900w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-court-tower-1-300x169.jpg 300w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-court-tower-1-768x433.jpg 768w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-court-tower-1-585x330.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">It was an important part of the defence fortress</figcaption></figure>
</div>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Water Tower</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This medieval fortification is located on the banks of the Drava River and was part of Maribor&#8217;s former city walls&#8217; defense system.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It was built in the 16th century when the threat of Turkish invasions made it necessary to provide more effective defense for the city. Its original purpose was to ensure the city&#8217;s water supply, but due to its strategic location, it soon also acquired an important defensive function.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Today, it no longer serves a specific function and is a tourist attraction, currently housing a wine shop.</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Jews&#8217; Tower</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This significant medieval fortification is located behind the Water Tower.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The tower was built in the 15th century and originally served as part of the city walls to protect the city. It got its name from being located directly next to the area inhabited by the Jewish community.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The building hosts temporary exhibitions, lectures, and other cultural events.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="900" height="598" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-water-tower.jpg" alt="In the foreground the Water Tower, behind it the Jewish Tower" class="wp-image-1089" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-water-tower.jpg 900w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-water-tower-300x199.jpg 300w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-water-tower-768x510.jpg 768w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-water-tower-585x389.jpg 585w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-water-tower-263x175.jpg 263w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">In the foreground the Water Tower, behind it the Jewish Tower</figcaption></figure>
</div>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Splavarska Bridge</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The best view of the bridge spanning the Drava River is from the promenade and the city center.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The bridge is a modern wooden structure used by pedestrians and cyclists. It is definitely worth crossing to the other side to admire the old town from there.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="900" height="507" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-bridge.jpg" alt="Wonderful view" class="wp-image-4125" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-bridge.jpg 900w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-bridge-300x169.jpg 300w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-bridge-768x433.jpg 768w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-bridge-585x330.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Wonderful view</figcaption></figure>
</div>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Jewish Street (Židovska ulica)</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This small street starts from the Main Square and was once the center of the Jewish community.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The street was home to the synagogue, the community house, and other buildings important to Jewish life. It is a popular promenade featuring cafes, art galleries, and craft shops.</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Old Vine</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This is a vine over 400 years old, listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the world&#8217;s oldest.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The vine, surrounded by a metal fence, grows up the wall of a 17th-century house and is visible in several paintings made between 1657 and 1681. The vine is still fruit-bearing, yielding about fifty kilograms of grapes annually.</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Pyramid Hill</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This tall hill is located a short distance north of the city center.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Its name comes from its distinctive, pyramid-shaped peak. It is not only a favorite destination for Maribor&#8217;s residents but also popular among tourists. The hill, just over 386 meters tall, offers an excellent view of the city, surrounding hills, and the Drava River.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The peak is only 1.5 km from the city center, with about 100 meters of elevation gain. The path to the top passes by vineyards, adding to its charm.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="900" height="507" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-pyramida.jpg" alt="From the centre it is about a 15-minute walk to the top" class="wp-image-4126" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-pyramida.jpg 900w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-pyramida-300x169.jpg 300w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-pyramida-768x433.jpg 768w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-maribor-attractions-pyramida-585x330.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">From the centre it is about a 15-minute walk to the top</figcaption></figure>
</div>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Pohorje mountains</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Located southwest of Maribor, this mountain range offers many activities, making it popular in both summer and winter.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Its most famous feature is the treetop walk. Situated at an altitude of about 1000 meters, it offers a magnificent view from nearly 37 meters high. You can walk among the treetops for 1 km, making it one of the most popular attractions in the area.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Its best-known natural attractions include the Lovrenc Lakes marsh area, Bistriška Špica, and Šumik Waterfall.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In the winter season, it turns into a ski paradise, thanks to well-maintained ski slopes and a modern lift system. In the warmer months, Pohorje is an excellent place for hiking and cycling.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Ljubljana is one of the smallest capitals, so its attractions can be explored quite quickly. However, a short trip is definitely worth it!</strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As the capital of <a href="https://tipsforjourney.com/best-places-in-slovenia/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Slovenia</a>, Ljubljana is the center of the country in almost every sense. Its river, the Ljubljanica, flows into the Sava River in the northern part of the city. The old town is located on the right bank, while the new districts are on the left. The old town is situated in a bend of the Ljubljanica, around Castle Hill.</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading has-text-align-center"><strong>Ljubljana attractions</strong></h2>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Prešeren Square</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Located on the banks of the Ljubljanica, the city&#8217;s main square features buildings in various architectural styles.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The most notable among these is the Church of the Annunciation, built in the 17th century in the Baroque style. The Franciscan church is attached to a monastery with a library of over 70,000 books.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="900" height="599" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-ljubljana-attractions-preseren-square.jpg" alt="Ljubljana's main square" class="wp-image-1096" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-ljubljana-attractions-preseren-square.jpg 900w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-ljubljana-attractions-preseren-square-300x200.jpg 300w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-ljubljana-attractions-preseren-square-768x511.jpg 768w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-ljubljana-attractions-preseren-square-585x389.jpg 585w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-ljubljana-attractions-preseren-square-263x175.jpg 263w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Ljubljana&#8217;s main square</figcaption></figure>
</div>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>St. Nicholas Cathedral</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The cathedral is situated in the &#8222;loop&#8221; of the Ljubljanica River, between the castle and the river.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Originally, a Baroque church stood in its place, which burned down in 1469, leading to the construction of this temple. The cathedral predominantly reflects the work of Italian masters. The rear dome and the altar painting are the work of Matevz Lanus, and the frescoes in the nave depict the life of Saint Nicholas. Most of the columns are gilded.</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Ljubljana Castle</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Perched on Castle Hill, the castle is a prominent attraction of Ljubljana and appears on the city&#8217;s coat of arms.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Its history dates back to the 11th century, gaining its present form in the 15th century. It was continually expanded in later periods. It served defensive purposes, especially against Ottoman invasions. The most beautiful part is the St. George Chapel.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It also has a Hungarian connection, as Prime Minister Count Lajos Batthyány was imprisoned here in 1849. There&#8217;s a memorial plaque in the clock tower in his honor.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Not only are the exhibitions worth visiting, but also the views. There are fantastic panoramas of the city and the distant Julian Alps.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You can reach the castle on foot or by funicular, with the lower station near the northern children&#8217;s theater.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="900" height="600" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-ljubljana-attractions-castle.jpg" alt="Very nice view from the castle" class="wp-image-1093" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-ljubljana-attractions-castle.jpg 900w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-ljubljana-attractions-castle-300x200.jpg 300w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-ljubljana-attractions-castle-768x512.jpg 768w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-ljubljana-attractions-castle-585x390.jpg 585w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-ljubljana-attractions-castle-263x175.jpg 263w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Very nice view from the castle</figcaption></figure>
</div>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Mestni trg and Stari trg</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The pedestrian street in the old town runs in a semi-circle below the castle and is very atmospheric.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Along this street, you&#8217;ll find the Town Hall, the cathedral, a fountain, and numerous Baroque buildings and restaurants.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Continuing south on Stari Street, many consider it the most beautiful street in Ljubljana. On the adjacent Gornji Street, you can see very beautiful, differently colored buildings.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="900" height="606" src="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-ljubljana-attractions-stari-street.jpg" alt="On the pedestrian street you can see buildings of different colours, mainly baroque" class="wp-image-1094" srcset="https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-ljubljana-attractions-stari-street.jpg 900w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-ljubljana-attractions-stari-street-300x202.jpg 300w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-ljubljana-attractions-stari-street-768x517.jpg 768w, https://tipsforjourney.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/tipsforjourney-ljubljana-attractions-stari-street-585x394.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">On the pedestrian street you can see buildings of different colours, mainly baroque</figcaption></figure>
</div>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Tivoli Park</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Located a few hundred meters from the city center, the main park of the city features <a href="https://tipsforjourney.com/best-places-in-france/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">French</a> gardens, promenades, and sculptures.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The park contains two castles. One showcases the history of Slovenia, while the other is used as an arts center.</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Triple Bridge (Tromostovje)</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The most famous of the bridges over the Ljubljanica, it comprises three bridges and connects Prešeren Square with the area below the castle.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Originally, only the central stone bridge existed, with the two side bridges added in the 1990s. These allow access to the riverside promenade.</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Dragon Bridge (Zmajski most)</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Located in the eastern part of the old town, it&#8217;s named after the four dragon statues on its corners. The latticed reinforced concrete bridge is a technical monument.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Initially named Jubilee Bridge when built. Renamed in 1919, as the city&#8217;s emblem features a dragon.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Legend has it that the dragons wag their tails whenever a virgin crosses the bridge. 🙂</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">

</div>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Butchers&#8217; Bridge (Mesarski most)</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A pedestrian bridge located between the two aforementioned bridges, made more colorful by a sculpture and hundreds of padlocks on its sides.</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Republic Square (Trg Republike)</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The square is dominated by two tall buildings standing next to each other. Built in the 1960s, it became an internationally recognized masterpiece of socialist modernist architecture.</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Slovenian National Museum</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Located on the corner of Republic Square, the museum was founded in 1821 and moved to the Rudolfinum building in 1885.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It hosts several permanent exhibitions, including prehistoric, Roman, Egyptian, and medieval collections, beyond Slovenian themes.</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Market</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Near the Dragon Bridge, in the old town, is the open-air market.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers, food, and everything typical of a market can be found here.</p>

<div style="height:25px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>AKC Metalkova</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Near the main train station, a true cultural center has emerged.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Formerly a military center, it has now become an underground-style place with various artistic works, graffiti, and an active nightlife. It&#8217;s worth visiting during the day to see these artworks.</p>
